Reviews build trust and feed the listings that search engines and AI assistants read. Automation can make asking easier, as long as the reviews stay genuine.

Why automate it
Most owners know they should ask for reviews and forget to. An automatic request after a finished job, sent soon after completion, makes asking consistent.
What a good request does
- Goes to every customer, not just the ones you expect to be happy.
- Is short, polite and easy: one link, one tap.
- Comes from a real person or business name.
- Does not offer payment, discounts or rewards in exchange for reviews of any kind.
What to avoid
- Fake reviews, bought reviews or reviews written by staff.
- Review gating: sending unhappy customers somewhere else so only happy ones reach the public platform. Google's policy prohibits discouraging negative reviews and selectively soliciting positive ones.
- Pressuring customers or asking repeatedly.
The FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials, and platform policies, prohibit deceptive review practices. Violations can bring removal of reviews or legal penalties.
Respond to every review
Thank people, and handle complaints calmly and specifically. Responses show prospective customers how you behave when something goes wrong.
Why it matters for AEO
A steady stream of genuine reviews strengthens your Google Business Profile, which assistants and search engines read. See also front-office automation.
Example message
"Thanks for choosing us today. If you were happy with the work, we would appreciate an honest review here: [link]. If anything was not right, reply to this message and we will fix it."
It asks for an honest review and does not steer unhappy customers away from the review page. See also what to do when a bad review lands.
Common questions
When should the request go out?
Soon after the job is complete, while the experience is fresh.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Do not offer discounts, gifts or payment for reviews. Google prohibits this, and incentives that depend on the review being positive can break FTC rules. Ask every customer the same way and offer nothing in return.
